Mexican trains are been built with Mexican public money, with no help from China, AND only some of the trains have been sold to Mexican government by CRRC, without any special treatment.

This is a great move, trains are the most modern and most ecological way to move a lot of people around. I salute this to our government, even if unfortunately transparecy institutions have disappeared, so undoubtedly there will be stolen resources in the making of it.

trains operated by the army in a country that keeps approving authoritarian measures, what could go wrong?

People are flying or going by train because of the allowed illegal roadblocks by local organizations of crime that take away your vehicles on roadways. It's a sad truth but the problem needs a root canal. As a Chihuahuense and a legacy of colonel Juaquin Terrazas of the battle of Tres Castillo's I have faith we will one day be a little bit safer as soon as corruption is deminished for north America and the tyrrants here in USA that allow it.

Those trains aren't safe, as corrupt and shady as PRI and PAN were they at least contracted to companies that knew what they were doing, I always thought you couldn't get any worse but Morena is somehow worse, they just care about putting it out there and letting their buddies get rich off the projects, we already had 2 separate derailings from the intercontinental train and the tren maya.

The train was NOT made by Chinese engineers. All the construction, from design to operation, was done mostly by Mexican companies, and the trains are from the Spanish company CAF but manufactured entirely in its plan in Mexico.

This was not built by chinese engineers. The train was built by Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) as the project leader, alongside other companies and local contractors. The electric trains operating on the route were manufactured by the Spanish company CAF at its plant located in Huehuetoca, State of Mexico.

Mexico use to have passenger trains, but US corporations bought them and politicians graduates from US universites privitize them and sold them in favour of interest of car and oil companies. And wrong 0:48 Mexican engineers where the main designers of the project , also european companies, no just Chinese.

Hopefully, when the US finally fully implodes, that severely constricts the market for drugs, and arms supply, from the US, and the Mex government can start wiping out the cartels and make Mexico safer.

@Solisium-Channel Oct 09, 2026 at 6:19AM

Built by Chinese Engineers… In other words, Mexico got a loan with crazy interests to China, and China still demanded that Chinse be flown in to build it, and when they can't pay the debt, China has control and influence over that country.
They do that in Africa and Latina America.

Sadly, the anti-rail hegemony in the USA won't allow a renaissance in rail transportation. Despite steel wheel on steel rail's superior rolling resistance, the "Powers" have deigned that only automobile – centric policies will be allowed. Any public funded rail project is made into a boondoggle to insure public disapproval and disdain.
Mexico can 'trump' America by embracing the "Way of Steel" for their dominant transportation for the remainder of the 21st century.

I just got back from Mexico City and definitely agree the traffic can get crazy! Good on them for pushing for trains! It would be fantastic to see them develop something like many asian countries in a decade or so. Meanwhile the US will consider to do what we always do because we refuse to change.

Mexican trains are becoming bottomless money pits, which is a natural consequence to them being a caprice of a senile president with very archaic ideas. Not to mention that the trains derail quite often.

I was traveling in Mexico 60 years ago and travelled all over the country by train, and I loved it. We even took sleeper cars. I was astonished when they were all gone when I visited in later years. So glad they are bringing them back. They made a lot of sense!!

I think Mexico should look to Japan for expertise in developing a large national rail network. Both countries have significant mountainous and rugged terrain, and Japan has decades of experience building railways through challenging geography using tunnels, bridges, viaducts, and other complex infrastructure. More importantly, Japan has developed a strong domestic railway industry over generations, with expertise spread across engineering, construction, manufacturing, operations, and maintenance. Mexico could partner with Japanese companies and institutions to transfer some of that knowledge and develop its own domestic capabilities rather than relying indefinitely on foreign contractors.

Mexico also has a large population of engineers and produces many engineering graduates. A decades-long national railway program could put much of that talent to work while creating demand for civil, structural, electrical, software, transportation, and other engineering disciplines. Over time, Mexico could develop its own railway construction and manufacturing industry, reducing costs and dependence on foreign expertise while creating skilled jobs and potentially allowing Mexican companies to eventually export their expertise. Mexico wouldn't need to copy Japan's railway system exactly, but it could adapt Japan's experience to Mexico's own geography, population centers, and economic needs. In that sense, investing in rail could be more than a transportation project—it could also be a long-term investment in Mexico's engineering, industrial, and technological capabilities.
