Legislation to scrap Ireland’s triple lock has passed its first vote in the Dáil, with 79 TDs supporting the change and 71 opposing it. The Government says reform is needed, while opposition parties warn it could threaten Ireland’s military neutrality.
The panel examines what the proposed changes mean for Irish neutrality, whether the coalition is right to push ahead with reform, and whether the public should have a say through a referendum.
Presenter Shane Coleman was joined by:
Joe Neville TD, Fine Gael
Sen. Patricia Stephenson, Soc Dems Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs
Kenneth McDonagh, Associate Professor in International Relations in the School of Law and Government, DCU.
Mick Clifford, Special Correspondent, Irish Examiner
