How do you not blame her? That is INSANE. Sure accidents happen but then you remove yourself before you spread it further than it already is.

The coach is like don’t get mad at her like bro she could have stopped herself but she didn’t and knew what she was doing as well so bad publicity goes to both parties

Devin Sherrington, you are a disgrace. "I'd never blame her for what happened …"

Zero accountability by her coach, and practically zero from her, until she was ultimately forced to apologise.

This girl has displayed sociopathic behavior for what she did which, is absolutely disgusting & is unacceptable.
* She has no respect for herself nor for the other competitors. She should have just stopped, period!
The others were put in a biohazard danger by her being irresponsible.
* These two men defending her actions is equally troubling.
Basically, their position is take no self-responsibilty and shift the blame to Hyrox? Really?
Hopefully, she gets some mental help and learns from this.

00:50 there’s the problem. Lack of personal accountability. Weak sauce.

Wow, looking at the comments here is amazing. This is not uncommon in other racing sports like marathons and such. I have no doubt she is celebrated within her sport, and the fact that most of the people here cant see outside their own experience shows how selfish you all are. You would rather make fun of someone having an unfortunate situation rather than trying to see things from a different viewpoint. I guess so many people are so misriable in their own lives all that matters is trying to make yourself feel better at someone elses expense. Talk about selfish.

If you have bad bowels then don't compete or take an off the shelf poop stopper and some antibiotics.

💪👸💪
Joanna Wietrzyk is an Australian athlete who entered a HYROX competition in Beijing to compete at the highest level of her sport. During the race, something happened that no athlete plans for: she suddenly lost control of her bowels. Yet she kept competing.
That fact alone deserves to be separated from the embarrassment surrounding it.
Warriors throughout history have understood something that modern spectators sometimes forget: the human body does not always remain dignified when the stakes are high. Soldiers in combat have experienced fear, exhaustion, vomiting, urination and loss of bowel control while fighting, marching and enduring extreme physical stress. Those bodily reactions do not automatically erase courage. A person can experience the most involuntary and humiliating things imaginable and still be demonstrating extraordinary determination.
That is the part of Joanna's story worth remembering.
She was not competing because she wanted to soil herself. She was competing because she had trained relentlessly to stand on that starting line. HYROX is an extraordinarily demanding endurance competition combining running with exercises such as sled pushes, rowing, burpees and weighted lunges. Joanna was already an elite competitor: she had become the first Australian woman to qualify for HYROX's Elite 15 and had established herself among the sport's top athletes.
When her body failed her in an extraordinarily embarrassing way, she nevertheless continued.

The medal must be recuperated to avoid copycat athletes using laxatives to push competition away and try to win.

That personal trainer is out of pocket, that's an adult…take yourself away if you leak in anyway. The first mistake was hers and the second was hyrox for not chucking her out expeditiously!!

Forget functional fitness racing. Even a child in a diaper knows it needs to be changed common sense by athletes, male and/or femalen Alright, at all time low. It seems where you can just defecate in the middle of your competition. And since you don't wanna bruise your ego and lose You'd rather soil yourself and be nasty

Devin Sherrington is exactly part of the problem. HYROX absolutely had a responsibility to intervene, but that does not absolve the athlete or her coach of theirs.

His argument effectively outsources personal responsibility, judgment, and basic consideration for others to an institution: if an official does not stop me, then I bear no responsibility for continuing.

That is cowardice dressed up as managerialism.

Institutions exist partly because individuals sometimes fail to exercise judgment. They are not a substitute for judgment. A coach should not need an official with a clipboard to tell him that when his athlete is creating a biological sanitation hazard for everyone around her, the responsible thing is to pull her from the competition.

HYROX failed. The athlete failed. And the coach failed. Responsibility is not zero-sum. Sports without virtues is mere spectacle. Sportsmanship is essental.

Someone needs to get sued for this. That’s a huge hygiene risk

Reply
@kekeglass3364 Oct 09, 2026 at 3:29AM

There were ALREADY rules in place (clothes soiled with bodily fluids, contaminating shared equipment, interfering with other competitors through unhygienic practices) that the organizers completely ignored for her. Yet, they enforced them and disqualified competitors behind her that threw up because of the stench and sight of her sht because vomiting is not allowed either. The other competitors should all sue!

Honestly, they should've realized that by not DQ'ing her to begin with, they were setting a precedent for future competitors to join these events and do the same thing.
