Student visa is being used, not by everyone, but many student visa applications use it as a stepping stone to get into Australia. During their stay, it’s either they find a sponsor or an Australian citizen to marry, a pathway to achieve Permanent Residency.

Hi karl, please reply me, I’m currently studying for my master's degree. My visa is valid until March 2027, but I still have one semester left to complete my degree. I changed my course and college about six months after arriving in Australia. Will I be able to extend my visa to complete my remaining semester? If so, what is the process for extending my visa?

Hi Carl are there any changes in 491 and 191 visa rules expected? What is your advice to those who are staying offshore on 491.

Hi Karl, thanks for all the information you share on this channel. Would you advise a current MS by research student whose dependent is still offshore to lodge an application for their dependent now? Will these changes be implemented immediately?

Hi Karl, I am currently studying a bachelor degree, my current student visa expires December 2026. I am go to finish my degree in February 2027, I will need to apply for a new visa to finish my degree, does this mean that I will need to apply outside of Australia?

Hi Karl, I am currently on 484 visa in Perth. This visa is valid until April, 2027. I am planning to lodge secondary Post Graduate visa (regional extension) when my current visa nears expiry. I have my partner and a child with me. Do you think I should lodge the extension Graduate visa now itself or I can wait until March next year?

Hi Karl,
I'm a PR and my wife, who is a German Citizen, is currently onshore on 651 eVisitor visa. Considering the fact that her 651 visa was granted before 17th Sept 2026, I assume we can still lodge for onshore partner PR application for her through me. what are your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Hi Karl, my relative is currently waiting on the outcome of a student visa application (applied on 6th August, 2026) and is on a Bridging Visa. During his studies in Australia, he changed masters courses from Biotechnology to Laboratory Medicine and later to Social Work. With the recent changes to the student visa system, could these course changes or his current visa situation have any effect on the approval of his application? Thanks for your insight.

Hi Carl, hope you are well.
My sister got student visa in Bach of Business but after 6 months she changed it to Bach of Early Childhood with same provider. Is she eligible for an extension onshore?

I'm currently studying for a master's by research, bringing my family here and will graduate in 2027. My student visa ends in Sep 2028, and I will definitely be looking for a 485 visa after that. However, even though we are already in Australia (and we're from an ASEAN country), I'm concerned about whether my family will still be able to stay with me when I apply for the 485 visa 🙁 Do you think we will be OK, Carl? Please advise. Thinking of the worst makes me sad; they love being here, and we're never apart for a long time 🙁

When the Australian Government announced the recent visa/migration changes, I remember there was a statement suggesting that the process for Australian citizens to bring their partners or family members would be improved. However, I don’t remember seeing any specific details at the time.

Do you know what that statement referred to, and whether any actual changes have since been introduced to make the partner visa process easier or faster for Australian citizens?

My wife is my dependent, and my baby was born outside Australia while my wife and I were holding student visas. My baby is now in Australia on a tourist visa, and I am thinking of adding her to my graduate visa application. Can I do it? She is 11 months old at the moment and will be two years old when I apply for my graduate visa.

I am studying Masters by Research at the moment.

I came here in Australia 2024 march on RMIT in bachelor of computer science. after six month I changed to bachelor of business information in a Institute then in 2025 February I start diploma of nursing leading bachelor of nursing at torrens University. At that moment my timeframe was 2026 sep my my diploma will be over and 2028 sep my bachlor will over and my visa is valid till 2027 15 march. Because of failing some units, instead of finising my diploma 2026 Aug, I will be finishing my diploma 2027 Aug. Then my bachelor will start 2027 sep and gonna finish 2029 sep. Since I will be my last semester by the time my visa expires, with recent visa changes taken into account how it will effect me and my application? could please help regarding that? I tranfers to nursing because I wanted be permanent here, I am genuinely worried now, In the end of the day its your country if you dont want me to live here or dont wanna give me extension completely fine, I am on my fourth semester right next term I will be on my last trimester which will started 15 February and ends at 10 may then 3 months placement and degree will be done But my visa will over at 15 march after one enrolling to my last semester , so by the time I visa will over I will be in my middle of semester . what they expect me to leave the study in my middle of and semester go ofshore and live uncertainty? even if gets granted but it takes time to process how am I supposed study my final semester which I already enrolled in 15 February.

I am just confused and in depression, stress, crying if you wanna cut Net overseas migrations and everything, well I am to happy to leave if they want me to, but please please let me just finish my diploma. I am happy put an application stating, I will permanently leave Australia withdrawing eligibility of getting extension of my bachelor and future visa options, bt please let me onshore at least finish my diploma I dont wanna go offshore and wait indefinitely with uncertainty in my middle of semester. Is there any way I can do something about please guide me through I did not slept for last 3 days.

90% of students come to Australia to stay permanently. If no pathway to permanent residency, then they will be huge drop in international students.

Hello Karl,
Thank you so much for the extensive clarification in this video. Can you please explain if you were made aware of any reason why the 189 visa invitation round has been postponed ??Is there any possibility that they were going to open it up to new skills ( I.e. Ship’s engineer) which is on the CSOL??
Thanks a lot

Hi, I would like to get your professional opinion regarding my current visa situation.

My wife is currently in Australia studying a Master’s degree by coursework. Her Student visa, together with the visas of our two children, was granted in December 2025.

I was included and declared as her spouse/dependant in her original Student visa application, but I did not lodge my own visa application at the same time as theirs.

With the recent changes to the rules affecting dependants of students studying a Master’s by coursework, I would like to know whether I can still lodge a Subclass 500 subsequent entrant application, considering that I was already declared as her spouse in the original application before these new changes came into effect.

We haven't been dreading this. These huge loopholes killed the country I came from and were killing Australia too.
